I was born in Marseille in 1977. I don't remember of those early years... but i do remember a feeling of hapiness always with me. i wasn't poor, i wasn't rich, just in the middle i guess.

I remember jumping naked at the beach when i was 3 ...

I remember playing in the stairs outside when i was 4, my mum looking at me ...

I remember moving a lot, going from apartement to apartement, loosing my friends ... that's maybe why i never could keep even one around me.

I remember going in the car with my father ... he died when i was 7, killed by a mad woman... i know something broke inside me at that time but i never knew what...

i miss him...

sometimes i would imagine how he would be proud of me maybe...

I am a father and i love my sons so much that it hurts...

Every inch of me wants the best for them and Len...

and i want them to remember good things about their childhood, and i hope they don't grow up too fast.

I have always been scared of the world outside, going too fast, too complicated, you can feel the enthropie of the world withering.

There is a sentence that touches me very much :

" I hope that the worlds turns, and that things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that, even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I love you. This year i was wondering what i could give to my beautiful Len , Very hard to find something that could make her heart melt.

I don't want to fall into the stereotype of chocolat box and flowers, overused and too commercial.

After a while i decided to contact Fei and ask him to help me gather videos from her friends wishing her "gong xi fa cai", thanks to Fei it has been possible.

Len has been away from home for 7 months now, it has been hard on her and a touch from home would be so good.

So for those who made it possible, here is the reaction of Len to the videos.

hi everybody,

been a long time since my last post.

I went to paris, and after i did my business, i had to wait for my train back home. So instead of waiting until 9pm, i went to the Louvre, best museum in the wwooooorrld.

here is a slideshow of the experience, i didn't have my camera with me so i used my phone... bare with me.

But the best thing is, it is not the Louvre who touched me that day. After coming out of the museum, i walked a bit, searching for a cinema, or a cafe so i could rest my painfull legs who carried my heavy weight during my long wandering in the many many many Louvre's corridors.

There was this exhibition in the street about children and there drawings.

My brother told me that he would prepare one for me. So he did with Jean-Gabriel as the master chief. it was delicious, best i ever had in years, right taste with the right sea food , like len would say : DIVINE.

thank you philippe et Jean Gabriel, it was out of this world.

They did welcomed us to their apartment in Marseille, famous city for its fish soup.

Anyway, it was a good time, so good i ate so much my stomach nearly exploded. Thanks for the walk we took after the meal, helped to digest.

it was fun to watch, and inspiring.
louan did enjoy to look at grown up playing with small car, running down the streets of the village.

Then we went back home, had lunch and Len helped grandmother to do some lavanda bags with louan.

Today we went for a quest : to find the Lavanda fields.
We decided to go to the lavanda museum in the city of Coustellet (http://www.museedelalavande.com/infospratiques-acces.php)
There we had our picnic but didn't took the tour inside the museum has it didn't meet our expectations. So we set our goal to Sault, the village well known for the lavanda fields surrounding it.

Today, towards the end of the afternoon, we went to visit one of the many villages surrounding pertuis where we live : Cucuron ( in English : round butt). pretty name for a village isn't it.

We then stroll through the pretty small and old street of the village, many stairs, many old walls with flowers growing on them, it is good to be back. i missed the pleasure of walking and not feeling sweaty after 5 minutes.

Louan and Len did enjoy it of course the good vibration of Provence and the feeling of peace float all around.Our hearts are relaxed and quiet.

louan has been playing a lot of playmobil lately, like me when i was his age. As well as lego toy. Since Louan came to france he inherited of my vaste collection of toys , especially lego. And since then he has been busy, asking me to play with him of course. At first i taught to myself : " mathieu you are 32, you don't play anymore, please..." but you can't resist the persuasive charm of Louan and after a few session, my passion of little boy came back, and we have been playing a lot since together, building city and trucks, and spaceship...

today we went to the Barben's zoo, a near by zoo i remembered going when i was very young, it was desert like no tree.... but big surprise, when we reached there louan and me : full of trees, beautiful space, with a bit of wind... perfect for a picnic... and for some romance made in louan. enjoy.

after this beautiful visit at the zoo, we went straight back home, louan slept in the car for an hour, reached home, pick up our books that we borrow from the library and went to change them for new ones.
Come back home, louan is watching is favorite cartoon, and i am cooking ratatouille for dinner... first time i am cooking it, and guess what, louan loved it, he took 2 times of it, a true victory as it is very difficult to make him finish his food .

Today is full moon, Thats why Louan was very energetic today, woke up early, couldn't nap, and was jumping up and down all day long, so along the day i decided to try to make him tired.

We went to Patricia's home to swim for 1 hour, and then went back home, prepare lunch, eat, try to take nap, didn't work, so i decided to go Ansouis, one of the most beautiful village in France. There we walk in the small streets and visited the "extraordinary museum".

This morning we woke up at 9 am, not the usual 7 am. The rain woke us up at 4.30 am , had to close the windows and i couldn't sleep back until 6am.

After breakfast we cleaned the house, eric vacuum and i mopped, under the very sharp eyes of Louan giving instructions on how to mop. We were very efficient.

At 11 am, i go with louan buy lettuce, melon, and a pizza for lunch. Come back and prepare the table, eat, go outside a bit and i put Louan for a nap around 1.30pm

Louan wakes up at 4pm, we get ready in a hurry, as we are going to the cinema to watch Ice age 3

Louan all excited prepare THE PLAN before reaching the cinema : so he said in his cute little voice : " we buy chocolate bread for me ok? and drink ok? and we go watch the dinosaurs..... ok?"

"Yes yes Louan, we will do that"

And after getting our tickets, Louan sat down, fixing the biiiiiiig screen with his chocolate bread in one hand and his water in the other, he was ecstatic.

After the movie, which was entertaining, we head back home, stop by Patricia's house to help her open a roof window, and we set the table for the dinner.

Louan plays outside with Arwen and merlin the cat, i am always delighted to see him play with the dog outside as he never did before in Malaysia.

Oh yes , mum, Eric has decided to do Apricot Jam!!! ahahahah i really can't recognise him, he is becoming a grandmother.....

on friday we went to one of my mum's oldest friends : the garnung. a very sweet old couple :
Francis and Guillemette.
Francis likes to write books with mind twisting word game, he likes to play with the words and grammar in a way that will lock you to the book until the end. He did write a dictionnary of special words " anagram" to help him write his books.
He is a sweet man with very gentle eyes.

Louan liked him straight away and stayed with him all day.

Louan and me went to Aix en Provence on Monday, since the shops are closed on Monday we were hoping for not a soul in town.... boy i was wrong.

The summer is starting full blow now, the French population disappear to let the tourist flood the streets.

But that didn't bothered us anyhow.
We stopped at the old church and took some pictures.

bought some fruit juice : banana orange for louan and me .

Louan and his new device, inspecting a bug with his magnifier / torch light / handphone.

Time for lunch, some good pasta by the street ( aubergine and green zuchinni pasta) and a good aple juice and water.

it was a good time, fun and beautiful day, Louan slept in the car on the way back, his head full of water fountain, bugs, pasta...

Yesterday i promised Louan i would take him to picnic, and i was myself quite excited about it, actually i was half excited, len is still not back and i miss having her by my side. But Louan comes first so this morning we went to "Saint Martin de la Brasque", a small village were you can find a nice small market. We bought 2 melons there and 2 aubergines. After walking a bit we headed back home and started to prepare our gears : towels, swimsuit, bread, cheese, melon, water bottle, camera, new clothes, the all "chebang"
And then happily we went to the lac which is 8 km from my house.

We set up our spot, unfold the towel on the floor, and i bring Louan and his toys by the side of the lac, where we could see a few kids snorkeling and playing. Louan stood there for a moment looking at them, i guess he was wondering what they were doing and maybe thinking that one day he would do the same. and then he started to meticulously build a sand castle.

After 30 minutes of play, i took him in my arms and we went for a walk in the lac to swim with the ducks, after a few "couacks!!" they were ok with our presence and made a few rounds around us. We met a few young French "mermaids", Louan was too shy to say hi, and then we went straight back to our spot, took out the melon, ate it and Louan gave a piece to a young boy near by sitting with his dad and mum. Louan likes to share.

Happy, we packed our things and went to the restaurant lac to order a small pizza and one ice cream for Louan's dessert.

The drive back home was quiet, half way i heard Louan says : " I love mommy...!!!" and he slept straight away in his car seat.

dear len, here is for you a report of what i have been cooking for dinner for louan and eric on thursday night and friday. this way you don't worry too much for us, we are ok .

So for thursday dinner:

cucumber with yoghurt sauce ( soya yoghurt plus garlic, olive oil, and feta cheese)
eric liked it so much he asked if he could finish the sauce ...

simple lettuce salade with feta cheese. gone in 60 seconds

mix vegetables cooked with pasta and fried tofu steak.

louan has been busy lately,

we went to have lunch with patricia's friend, who have a 3 years old son named : Robin.

they clicked quite fast and start playing very nicely, talking to each other in their respective native language.

the lunch was very provencal style and healthy : steam potatoes, french beans, and steam fish with home made mayonnaise.

after lunch, we went to visit the small village of Vaugine where Louan met a little girl from Danemark.
And then we went for a nap.

louan was shy at first like all little boy, but got around after a few french fries from nicolas.

Today after cleaning a bit the house and bought some veg and fruits for dinner, we went for lunch with Patricia, my mum's best friend.
We went to my mum's favorite restaurant : "perle de jade", a Vietnamese restaurant , a second home for her.

After lunch , straight home for the 2 o'clock nap, " i love mammy " is usual before louan close his eyes. And ploum, sleeps until 5 o'clock
Wakes up and drink some water, we hang the laundry and go for a walk with arwen the dog.
Along the way louan decides to pick up some flower for eric his grandfather, and one small white snail.

grand mere and len gone to malaysia... thats left me for the cooking for my step father and my lovely hungry louan.

Well, i did good for the first dinner : rice with mix veg/fish.
And to make sure that louan is not too hungry while waiting for me to cook i give him a piece of bread with some salmon paste on top, he loves it. ( it's greek)

they liked it apparently, pfiuuuu!!!
After that, louan watch a bit more totoro and i clean up the table with eric, feed the dog and cats.

time for shower with louan and hope to bed, read a mouse story , 3 times, and we wish good night to mummy and grand mere who are still high in the sky towards malaysia.

Len is going back Malaysia today.
It has been a week now we have been preparing Louan for the event, and each and every time he would start to talk about the cat bus in the movie " my neighbor Totoro" :

Louan : " i will take the cat bus and drive it, and tiu tiuuuu tiu tiu ( driving noise with gestures) ,to malaysia...

Mathieu : " But i heard the cat bus is very busy now because a lot of people are going for holiday, so i don't think the cat bus will go malaysia.."

Louan : " then i will take a train to malaysia!! "

Mathieu : " mmmhh the train doesn't go that far louan."

Louan : " I will take a plane to malaysia"

Mathieu : " there is no more place in the plane louan."\

Louan : " I can stand and hold.."

Mathieu : " you can't stand in a plane Louan, you need to sit down, or else it is dangerous."

Louan : ( with a resigned face ) ok.....

Mathieu : " but you know, mammy will come back soon, and we will count everyday on the calendar, and we will go out and have fun with grandpere and henri pierre, and lisa, it will be ok.

This toy is plastic version of the swiss army knife, it has a magnifying glass, little fork, picker, small shovel, etc... an awsome toy for any small boys who wants to dig out parent's secrets...

So i told Louan : " Louan, i buy this toy for you?"

He look at me and the toy and says : " No, i don't want to buy this one" ...and he leaves to go push the button on some transformers toys...

Stunned, i put back the toy on the hook, did he just say no to free toy? yes he did...

We are very blessed with Louan. I will let you know why.

Louan has been sick for a day and half with a very high fever and diarrhea. But our little boy still found the energy to stay a good boy, he still wanted to play, watch Bolt over and over, talk about it, and poo every 20 minutes. Didn't complain much.

The evening coming, Louan wished to go to the Buddhist temple near by our house, we went all the way ,smelly after a day spent with louan at home, in order to find some food and walk a bit. We ended up welcoming a high monk from taiwan and dine with the entire crew in a fine buddhist restaurant, all because of Louan...

The next day the fever was gone, he did throw up a few time, and he was more worried to dirty the public place than himself, kept saying that he needed to relax and lie down...

Maybe it is not so good to praise your child too much, but this time is one of those moments when you are really proud of your little baby.

I happened to stumble upon a bakery who do real and authentic french breads, chocolate bread, quiches, cakes.... you can tell by the fact that the main clients are all foreigners, all sitting outside of the shop, sipping tea and eating croissants...

On Saturday 08 of March, we went to support Fei in his Radio performance. It turned out great but short for him and Will since the DJ kept talking and i didn't understand a word of it. I personally think they should have let them perform more and talk less.
After a while Len was invited over the microphone to interact a bit with them, she gave Fei a bottle of vodka for future celebration and Louan as usual run up to them, cannot live without mum.

This afternoon i remembered that Len isn't a typical housewife, she is a famous Dj, Journalist, Yoga teacher, withFans all over the world.... Ahahahahahahaha......ah

One fine morning, with len and louan, we went for breakfast in a kopitiam located in Subang.

After stuffing ourselves with roti bakar and milo panas, kopi peng, etc... time to pay the bill...

I go, happily, to pay at the counter. At first the woman gave me the bill : 10.55 rm, i gave her 11 rm waiting for my change.

She seemed to be in panic, took a calculator and tried to figure out how much should be my change ( apparently the computer was having some kind of breakdown)

So while watching the girl trying to operate the calculator, i was going like that in my head :

""1 ringgit minus 55 cents = 45 cents "" it took me a split sec to figure it out, and sincerely i am no math genius, i failed all my math tests since first grade.

i was hoping she might pick up my thoughts and finally give me my change... i was ready to give up on it anyway, it was just 45 cents.

What happened? are computers making us stupid and dependent to this extend?

Louan loves to water the plants the morning, me i don't, even if i grew up in a house with a big garden, i might have like to do so, but i quickly found it very boring i guess.... and i loved to play with sand and mud, and create stories with my action-figures, like every little boy...

So i happily forgot about watering the plants...

But one day something happpened : my neighbour had a big field and they decided to own a horse. So outside of my window lived a big horse, alone, trying desperately to graze the small grass growing on my side. So i decided to water the grass near by his fence so he could eat green tall grass, i guess fate wanted me to water plants...

but now i don't have any horse nearby to make me water the plants for him....

Hope Louan will find his horse....

Finally, after days of waiting for the clearance from above, louan and me were happily strolling towards the land of promises.
A few more steps and there it was, shimmering like a lake of diamonds, waving as a silky fabric in the morning wind : the swimming pool !!!

Louan jumps of excitement, keep saying : "we are going to the swimming pool !!!! ..... we are going to the swimming pool !!!! "

Time to take off louan's pants, diaper, t-shirt, all flying away gracefully. I unveiled louan's new swim suit, he is excited, jumping up and down ... and a few seconds later : tadaaaaaaa !!!! superLouan is standing in front of me, much proud and happy...

after a few blow to inflate louan's floater, here we are splashing joyfully as the guard look at us with a smile on his face...

After a while, louan feel confortable enough to remove his floater and stick in my arms, asking :
daddy swim there !!! and there !!!! and there!!!

For 30 minutes i totally forgot about everything, enjoying only this special moment.

Time to get out, dry out, wear new cloth and we are on our way to pick up mummy....

one simple day in Louan's Life...

Up at 6.30, louan jumped everywhere asking for breakfast..... Len is already up checking internet, i could barely walk to the bathroom....aaaarrrggg......
But suddenly i remembered, for breakfast we were going for the best thing in the world : ROTI BAKAR!!!!!!!

Louan inspected the car first, making sure we get to the "Ipoh white coffee kopitiam" in time.

Time to enjoy, slowly... with kopi bing, milo panas, nothing can beat that for breakfast...

While i was finishing the last piece of ROTI bAKAR!!!!! Louan took the chance to seduce a "big sister" and then we could continue on our journey. We decided to go to kinokuniya, but it is still too early so we stopped by the budhist temple maha vihara in brickfields :

As a beautiful surprise, 4 bunnies were happily having breakfast on the temple grass...
Louan was delighted.

It was time to go, Louan said bye bye the best way he knew...

And after all these emotions and good breakfast, time to have a rest in the best bed in the world : mammy's arms.

After kinokuniya, Louan's head is full of pictures and his stomach is groawling......
TIME TO EAT!!!!!

So we went off in the direction of the curve to eat at LE MARCHE, one of daddy and louan's favorite places

Louan couldn't wait to eat, ehehehe.....

After a good lunch, we headed back home for ""Siesta""
The cat kept us company.

Time to wake up, and we went to see our little friend Bryn's home to visit his mum who was pregnant of a little girl... due very soon.
We bought Bryn a Green energy kit from kinokuniya.
He loved it.

Louan tried on Bryn's tricycle under the watch dog ..... sleeping watch dog.......

and the turtle....

While Len gave a soft massage....

... i tried on a device which is suppose to be good for blood circulation while you step on it....
i believe it is a torture device for foreigners.... ehehehe....

It's late, time to go for dinner...

Last bite, and it is time to head home, take shower, and sleep.

I don't have a lot of wishes for my son, i witness a lot of parents who wants their children to become what they failed to become. They want their son to be the best, have money, big house, big cars, big ..... the list can go on for ever.

I just wish my son to be happy, i want him to discover who he is slowly, takes his time....

It is a crazy world out there.

I am blessed for having a happy childhood, all my memories from back then are sweet memories with my mum and brother ( my dad died when i was young ). I hope Louan will have the same sweet memories. Thats why maybe i am so positive and maybe too naive about life.
